"There are a number of CDMA tricks" -if this is true, it sure scares me as a QCOM investor. It would imply that even if you pay lots of money for a license, you don't get the real stuff. Could explain why it took NOK so long... I want much more IPR income, NOW! Dr IJ has stated over and over again that any delay in 3G is his worst fear. I too certainly hope there are no more setbacks in performance or schedule of WCDMA.
