Absentee overseas ballot issue is very important. You have heard that 39% of the absentee ballots were disqualified for various reasons and that number is roughly 1200 to 1400. You have heard that many on these were disqualified due to absense of a post mark in violation of federal law. you have heard that the Bush camp has a suit in Florida to force these votes to be considered because Federal law supercedes state law.

But did you realize that there is a whole additional group of absentee ballots that had been previously counted and included in the initial certification (not the late ballot certifications that came in last Friday nite or Saturdag AM. Presumably many of this first group of ballots were also tossed out due to "no post mark" and various other interpretations that well likely be held to be in violation of federal law governing treatment of the military servicemen's votes.

The other suit that will be heard next Friday by the US Supreme court concerns:
1) Federal rules against changing long standing vote counting rules after an election has ben held in order to attempt to change the election outcome. For example there is supposed to be a 1990?? brochure published for Palm beach County stating that certain types of dimpled, pregnant etc ballots will not be counted as has been the practice prior to the current Democrat vote mining. For example, the new counting rules have changed several times during the current palm Beach recount.
2) Possible equal protection arguements against allowing selective hand recounts in a few heavily Democratic counties such a Palm Beach when there has not been fraud or voting machine breakdown.

Gore appears to be permanently ending his political career here. He is unpopular among national Democratic leaders. Also, he has sreewed up a presidential election in a time of unprecidented economic prosperity--party stalwarts are not very happy about this.
