Re: Joe the Cowardly Lion

Lieberman's abandonment of principle profoundly disappointed me. Between his Faustian behavior, Senator Kerrey's defense of military disenfranchisement, and D.P. Moynihan's retirement, there is little to like among Sentate democrats.

Here is an e-mail I sent Lionesque Joe:

Dear Senator Lieberman:

I must respectfully protest, in the strongest possible terms, your statements pertaining to the exercise of First Amendment rights to assemble by certain individuals in Florida. These individuals represent many Americans -- including your correspondent -- who are profoundly concerned about the post-election events in that state.

I will not enumerate my specific objections in these comments. However, if you can document similar public objections you have made to:

1. The importation of union members from other states to man picket lines,

2. The racially incendiary remarks made by non-Floridian the Reverend Jackson in the days after the election,

3. The use of a Texas telemarketing firm to contact Floridians with the intention of creating unrest among voters,

I shall be happy to withdraw this protest and publicly to applaud your evenhandedness.
