Both sides want to use technicalities to count the ballots that advantage them and
exclude those that disadvantage them! Surprise, surprise!

True. But Bush isn't saying smarmily all over TV that the voices of all the voters must be heard and then silencing those voters he doesn't want heard from. He's at least being moderately consistent in trying to work the system to his advantage, saying simply that the law must be followed to the letter and if that means that certain citizens who didn't vote strictly according to the instructions (punching out their chads completely) are just out of luck. That may be unkind, but it's not hypocritical.

What interests me are the stories that in the case of at least some of the dimpled ballots the chads for all the other offices are fully punched out. So these voters clearly knew how to punch out chads when they wanted to. How can one then say that a dimple meant they intended to punch that chad but didn't? Why isn't it equally likely to argue that they were thinking it over and decided not to vote for anybody for President?

I promise not to return here, to this sanctuary, with more politics.

A promise I hope you will break, as long as we comply with CB's plea for a rational discourse and not the stridency and wild and absurd charges that have basically turned me away from the other threads.
