George,

>>If what you're trying to say is that all Democrats are so partisan that none of them can be trusted in public office, that's an interesting position.<<

From my posts it should be clear that I'm not saying that. I would object to recounting only Republican strongholds using standards set by Republicans too.

I have a problem with ANYTHING open to bias. I think neither side can be totally trusted, but I specifically trust Gore less than most.

>>They would have agreed on standards for the recount that was mandatory under Florida law anyway, including absentee ballots. This would have included manual versus machine, and the problem of those infernal chads.<<

Florida law requires a recount. Not a "manual" recount. The automated recount was done. A manual recount was requested by Gore. I have absolutely no problem with him requesting a manual recount. So would I given how close things are and his claim that he is not getting credit for many votes due to inaccurate machines. However, there is a dispute over what the law requires the either side to demonstate in order to include/exclude the votes from a manual recount. On that I have no opinion because I'm not a lawyer. The courts will settle it.

There are obviously subjective issues related to chads and which should ballots should be counted. I would expect reasonable people to disagree on what should be included. In this case it should be clear who is going to want what because of the districts we are talking about. I'm sure both sides are being disingenuous in their desire to get the edge. I have no problem with that.

I have a problem with the fact that democrats are making the rules in this case. I would also have a problem with republicans making the rules.
