If none of the other points convince you that the idea of going to a straight popular vote won't fly, just consider the implications of a nationwide recount. Take all the tension, ill will, backbiting, charges and countercharges flying around in Florida right now, and make all fifty states and DC join in the fun! Wouldn't that be great?? Not to mention the practical elimination of the chance that a dispute such as the current one might be resolved by Inauguration Day. Sounds like a perfect Democrat proposal, actually. Do what feels good and ignore what it actually accomplishes.
