Good, I agree. My reminiscence brought to mind the civil rights protests of the 60's by minorities and students -- a reaction to unfair government actions (to have the recount hidden from the public, which was the focus of the protest). But it certainly is not an equal situation.
That, my friend, is not the American way, just as targeting ballots of current military personnel for exclusion is not the American way, either.
I agree that intimidation should not stop or slow down the count. But if Dade had felt that they wanted to continue to counting, they could have done it in the same room they had been in (visible to the public) and the protesters would have most likely stopped. Remember, the primary chant was "Let Us In".

<edit: p.s. As I remember it, the canvassing board in Dade said that they didn't stop because they were intimidated, but rather that they wouldn't meet the deadline. That's supported by some comments just made on CNN.> |
