re: Sun and data integrity

Tony, I know nothing about Sun and their processors, but on their website, I found this:

sun.com

which claims "The UltraSPARC™–II, 450 MHz CPU module, 4 Mbyte E-cache, (SME5224AUPA-450), supports full master
and slave functionality with a 128-bit data bus and a 16-bit error correction code (ECC)."

Possibly I am not understanding the data sheet correctly, or maybe the L1 or other cache has no ECC or parity at all. Or maybe this is a new product and the problem is with older models currently in service.
