I would venture that the lifetime of a commercial reactor
is limited more by the available on-site space for storage of spent rods than the material properties of the reactor itself.

Once upon a time the idea was to periodically ship out these rods for reprocessing, but the plan turned out to be "too hot" to handle politically.

Nuclear power is not economically competitive with fossil fuel if the costs of government subsidies are included.
