Gore twice proposed, and the Bush team twice rejected, a recount of every county in Florida. That would have been the fairest procedure, but the Republicans were afraid at what the outcome would have been.

Gore had everything to gain in any recount... Bush on the other hand opposed recounts, and stuck to the letter mandated by the Florida law, which as you've witnessed is being ignored by the Gore camp in their search for more votes.

Agreeing to any compromise proposed would have been tantamount to departing Bush previous position and you would be crowing a different tune... i.e., "your candidate agreed...", "your candidate can't make up his mind", etc.

The fact that Bush has remained steadfast and did not resort to vote production on the pretense of the "will of the people" line is to be commended. Gore on the other hand would have been more accurate if he said, "the will of the Democrats and mine", don't you think?
