Was the context properly captured by the Republicans?
Or was it understated (which is what I think is the case).

I know that you want me to say that Begala (and Democrats, in general) was vile beyond comparison.

Sorry.

Begala should know better. There are some hot-button names we don't call each other unless we're looking for a fight. We don't question anyone's manhood or patriotism. We don't suggest racism or child abuse. We know to tread carefully in some areas. Begala was in a sensitive area and I don't think that he chose his words carefully enough even though he said clearly that he wasn't tarring everyone from the "red" states. I think he used poor judgment bringing up the subject of the Republican dark side at this particular time and with an excess of rhetoric.

I don't blame the Reps for jumping on his rhetoric even as they spew their own. That's the way the game is played. But I'm not about to award the high moral ground to the Reps, who have produced volumes of this stuff and who have tread recklessly around the equally sensitive subject of patriotism. A pox on both their houses, IMO.
