If DEC takes the bait and includes an anti-trust counterclaim in their answer to Intel's lawsuit, then this battle will be fought in San Jose on Intel's home turf. On the other hand, if DEC tries to make the anti-trust argument in an amendment to the Massachusetts complaint, it will give Intel grounds for seeking consolidation of the entire action in California.

The costs of the latest move to DEC are immediate (1997). If there are costs to Intel, they will be in the distant future. The discovery phase alone in an antitrust suit will outlast the next half-dozen generations of processors.
