"My guess would be that they won't go much beyond experiments until major infrastructure changes are impemented."

ftth- Thanks for your comments. Yes I would also like to keep this particular discussion going as to what is generically called, 'VOD.' The one where current tests are being run in my neck of the woods via Time Warner in Tampa. Also by Oceanic Cable in Hawaii. Plus there is a test by Cox Communications in San Diego. And finally I believe there is a test in Austin Texas. It's where I'm assuming that a subscriber can call up one of hundreds of movies to be sent to them at a moments notice. Plus giving them the luxury of having VCR like controls while viewing their movie of choice.

I know this is a slim hope, but is there anyone out there who is currently receiving VOD services in one of these test areas? If so, it would be of GREAT interest to hear how it works.
___________

ftth- Maybe you can help me out in understanding the following in that it relates to your excerpt above:

The final challenge is transmitting the digital movie over the analog cable network. This requires equipment that translates streaming MPEG shows into the RF signals used on cable system. The box must put the right show on the right channel in the right format. Quadrature Amplitude Modulation(QAM) does this.

Does the above make sense to you? I take it the...well I better not speculate yet. Can you add a little light to the above. If it's not accurate then I won't even bother with trying to understand it. If it is accurate, then I have a follow-up question. Thanks. -MikeM(From Florida)
