Right. You can compare whatever you want, revisionist historians are into stuff like that. The only reason the PPro ever looked weak, in some aspects, compared to the Pentium was the 16 bit memory management botch. This was fixed in the PII, and could have been easily fixed in the PPro too, except that Intel never bothered. The problems with the P4 are by all indications deeper than the 16 bit memory botch in the PPro.

As for the page from Tom's hardware you cite, note that all your PPro/Pentium comparisons are based on 2 overclocked CPUs. Here are some more up to date benchmarks for you to ignore in your continued revisionist history effort. tomshardware.com, tomshardware.com. In the more conventional comparison, the Pentium 200 (MMX updated, even) can only eak out wins on 2 16 bit tests, out of 11 benchmarks.

Or you can go on blathering definitive information like this:

The only 32bit program I saw run side-by-side on the P5/P6 platforms was a 3D game called Descent. It appeared to run at least as fast on the P5 (MMX), but the program did not include a benchmarking function - nor could I guarantee that other components (graphics card, RAM etc) did not skew my perception.

Who's bs'ing who here? Offhand, I'd say people sucking up the NetB**s* marketing campaign shouldn't throw stones.
