Daschle expressed himself fairly eloquently and dutifully highlighted "will of the people", "full, fair and accurate", sidestepped the military absentee issue by saying the absence of Gore representatives (lawyers) at the court hearing Friday in no way was an indication that they are against the counting of military absentees. He and the Montana governor vehemently disagreed over whether dimpled chads were routinely counted during manual recounts, and he made it sound as if the ultimate exclusion of Florida's electors in the electoral college would be perfectly natural should the duration of the legal battles necessitate it.

The out of control part was more a feeling I got that Democratic politicians will never concede that they lost Florida, and that since Gore was ahead in the poular vote that he should be given the benefit of the doubt in Florida and that some form of selective counting and selective exclusion should ultimately produce the desired result given enough time.
The Republicans also believe that they won the election fair and square and that extraordinary means, such as using majorities where they can be most effective (Florida legislature, U.S. House) is justified since it just confirms what should have been the result in the first place.

In short, it looks as if the Democratic politicians are determined to drag this out until no untapped legal recourse exists or until Bush concedes. The Republicans will use state or national legislative power if necessary to win.
Neither side is ever going to be able to swallow it completely.
