I revisited post #87855. You have your numerical ducks all in order, and I tip my hat to you for basing your argument on substantial information. Many people on this board base arguments on pseudo news stories such as those posted in newsmax.com, etc. They should follow your lead.

I would argue that if only 1 of 2 eligible voters voted in an election, the results are nevertheless legitimate. What is the option? To require every eligible voter to vote or face negative consequences? Can one assume that those who decline to vote are dissatisfied with both major party candidates? I don't think so. Perhaps they simply feel that either candidate would be a decent choice.

I really must disagree with you that the Democratic Party is currently at its zenith, and that there's nowhere to go but downhill from here. The great surprise this past election was that the Democrats were able to rally so much popular support. All expected the Repubs to accomplish such on the basis of the Clinton impeachment aftermath, but not one poll predicted what happened on Election Day.

Young leaders like Gephardt, Daschle, Bayh, H. Clinton, Wellstone, Boxer are providing energy to complement the experience and steady hand of people like Biden, Kennedy and Lieberman.

I'm enthused about the prospects of the Democratic Party. Nowhere to go but up.
