Again, somehow you manage to say precisely the opposite of the truth. It was widely assumed that the Republicans would suffer a backlash for the impeachment effort, and that Gore would ride a strong economy into the White House. Merely given the structure of the seats up for grabs, everyone knew that the Republicans were likely to narrow their majority, and possibly lose one house of Congress. Even those impressed with the weakness of Gore in trial balloons considerably ahead of the election expected the race to tighten up by election day.............
