Kenneth, it is over. The Florida courts will reject Gore's contest of the vote. It was the Florida Supreme Court that set the 5 pm Sunday deadline for delivery of the manual counts. The Florida Supreme Court is not going to alter its 5 pm Sunday deadline (it will seem extremely foolish and partisan, if it did), nor will it second guess individual county election board decisions, such as the decision by Dade County not to hand count ballots that showed no presidential preference in the machine count.

I know it is unfair to Gore. I am convinced that thousands more Floridians thought that they voted for Gore over Bush, but because of faulty ballot design or ancient voting equipment their votes did not register -- the original exit polls were right! Nevertheless, at this point the chances of Gore snatching Florida from Bush are almost nil. Gore will contest, to show his supporters that he values their votes, but that effort will fail in the Florida state courts and I strongly doubt he will take it to the Supreme Court.

Hopefully, after this adventure, Florida and other states will update their voting equipment from 19th to at least 20th century technology.
