If Bush just won anything, it the Presidency in name alone. Few Democrats will be willing to accept his legitimacy to govern.

Hmm. I think you are right to an extent (in the second sentence). But it is not the partisan folks on either side that either candidate has to gain acceptance from. It's the mass of folks in the middle.

It is a hopeless cause, for the most part, to try to win over your enemy in this case. But nomatter which man sits in the oval office next year, the next battle will lie in congress. And those 'middle' folks and their impression of these two candidates and their congressional backers is going to make a large difference as to who is the victor there.

In the end, it seems to me (a conservative moderate) that Bush has acted with at least a modicum of grace and patience in this battle whereas Gore has been like a man that will pay any price for a victory, legitimate or not.

Gore and his lawyers have talked about the "will of the people". But they are only interested in a certain group of people.

They have spoken about the "rule of law", but have only chosen to honor such laws that will favor Gore.

Sure... each camp has been slimy. And that is sad. It shows that honor has little value in our culture. But Gore and his team have out-slimed Bush ten to one IMHO.
