Bush, if Florida courts reverse precedent in Florida state law and enable him to become president, will go down in history as the ONLY president who ever served losing both the national popular and electoral college vote (Gore got more votes than Bush in Florida, and exit polling is a hint to this!).
And to make matters worse, I still believe there's deeper scandal in Bush's background. Why? 'Cause he clearly hid behind his 18-year-old voting aged twin daughters as his reason and excuse for not informing the public about his DUI conviction.
So what's the big deal about this? A couple of things.
First, as voting aged children, Bush's own children had a right to know about his DUI, just as did any American considering his candidacy.
Second, and perhaps the real reason why he didn't fess up, is 'cause doing so would have sent the press digging in that direction, and more could have been uncovered. Perhaps he believes, once in office, he can ride out any storm which erupts during the term of his presidency.
I predict that not only will Democrats regret Gore didn't win this one; but so also will GOPwingers down the road. |
