>>It was the Democratic Supreme Court that set the deadline at 5PM, not the SOS. Furthermore Florida law does not allow for partial recounts. <<
What is totally weird, is that the chairman of the Palm Beach committee is this guy Barton, who seems nice enough, and 'eminently' fair, BUT HE IS A JUDGE, HIMSELF! He is the one that should have listened to what the Fla SC said, they said SUNDAY! so he takes off Thanksgiving, and then makes a motion for an extra couple of hours. He risked what the people in Broward county knew might happen six days ago when they decided to go with the old count. That if your late, there is a strong possibility that there will be a lot more of the county votes, not counted. So given the monumental victory and gift from the FSC, he tries to weedle "juss a wido bitsy morsey timesy".
He's a Judge, for cripes sakes. You think he would know what a court deadline means.
And maybe that's what the deadline does mean. The voter's intent must be clear. It must be obvious. There cannot be a reasonable doubt of what the voter meant. To discern, to glean, to intuit takes time.
That is why the legislature imposed the seven day deadline. That is why the SOS said the only reason to vary from that would be something in the nature of fraud.
Too bad the attorneys who argued the case before the FSC didn't think of that. Things would be so much simpler, now. Oh, well. :))
Edit: And while I'm at it, what happened to this Gore thingy:
Whall, nowa the the fine upstanding Florda Supreeme Court has so fairly ruled, and such a good learning experience to all those fine young school children across this Great Country, I jusss wan do what the will of the good voters of Florda say, and if Ay loose, so be it, Ay am willin' to rest my fate in the hands of those good people.....
(Off stage whisper)
Those Broward sonsofbtchmuthaduckers DID WHAT?!?!??! |
