FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 27, 2000--

NMS Joins Forces with Linkhead to Bring Robust Carrier-Grade
Technology to China's Surging Mobile Telecom Industry

Natural MicroSystems (NASDAQ: NMSS.O), the technology leader
enabling a new era of communications, today announced that its
hardware and software platforms have been deployed by Beijing Linkhead
Information Technology Co., Ltd. as a critical part of a mobile call
center at Henan Mobile Communications in China. NMS' technology, which
is the foundation for a call center system buildout by Linkhead, now
serves mobile phone users in 15 cities across Henan province. The call
center application was developed by JHTop Information Technology Corp.
Ltd. of Beijing.
The new call center system integrates functions and services
including phone bill inquiry, customer complaints, new customer
registration, and service inquiry.
Henan Mobile Communications selected a call center solution built
upon NMS' hardware and software platforms because timely deployment
and carrier-grade capabilities were major criteria for the project. In
addition to the flexibility provided by the integration of voice and
fax capabilities on a single platform, NMS products offer scalability,
high availability, internationally proven telephony interfaces and the
rich Natural Access(TM) development environment, which have enabled
Henan to accomplish its objectives. Acting as NMS' systems integration
partner, Linkhead performed a principal role in the sale and
implementation because of its experience and presence in China's
telecom market. NMS platforms now deployed or planned for deployment
at Henan include the feature-rich, field-proven Alliance Generation(R)
(AG) voice platforms and the TX(TM)2000 MVIP (Multi-Vendor Integration
Protocol) interface board.
"Partnering with Natural MicroSystems has been the key to the
successful call center project at Henan Mobile Communications," said
Mr. Shener, Sales Manager, Beijing Linkhead Information Technology
Company. "As a long-standing partner of NMS, Linkhead is impressed
with the results their enabling technology has helped us to
accomplish. NMS platforms are the right match for the demands of
China's surging mobile telecom industry, because we can implement
projects faster while achieving reliable operation, service quality
and growth capacity."
China is one of the world's most important markets in the mobile
telecom industry, with mobile subscribers growing at a brisk pace, a
largely untapped market and the advent of emerging services such as
wireless Internet. The nation became the largest single market for
mobile phone service in Asia/Pacific during the first quarter of 2000,
according to the market research and consulting firm Dataquest Inc., a
unit of Gartner Group Inc. China's Ministry of Information Industry
(MII) reports that from January to August 2000, 19.9 million people
registered for mobile phones, bringing the nation's total base of
subscribers to 63.19 million.
Henan and other mobile operators are gearing up for the demand by
adding new capacity and introducing core services such as call
centers. Mobile telecom providers depend upon their call center
operations to handle all aspects of customer care: registering new
subscribers, activating new services, handling billing inquiries and
more.
"Fast-changing, fast-growing markets intensify the pressure on
core mobile telecom applications," said Allen Ho, NMS Country Manager
for China. "While today's challenges are infrastructure buildout and
subscriber growth, future challenges include managing data-oriented
services like wireless Internet. By working with experienced telecom
partners such as Linkhead, NMS offers China's mobile service providers
the enabling technology they require for faster system development,
easier integration of equipment, richer functionality and smoother
growth."
