You don't hear on Thanksgiving, "We are thankful that we had gunpowder Neither do you hear, "We are thankful that we have grown to temper our brutal instincts and have become the most multicultural and democratic nation on the face of the earth". There are always things that we can be ashamed of, but there are just as many to be proud of. Were the US more brutal than it's competitors, I dare say we wouldn't continue to experience the degree of immigration we have. Think of our parents giving thanks for their children (us), despite the cruelty we may have displayed in our youth, oftentimes bordering on incorrigible. Again, whatever cruelty Americans displayed during the early years of this country, it was hardly out of the norm for that period. We have only to look at the history of the French and British empires for comparison. Regards, Ron
