Please explain to me why the machine punched every other vote just fine but did not work for the presidential vote?

Cog:

These machines are very old, and are being replaced by new electronic recording machines...

If you've ever used a manual three hole punch device you know it sometimes gets clogged with the little pieces of paper from previous punches... You become aware of this when you try to punch holes but feel the resistance... Upon checking the paper you notice only partially punched holes... You have to open the hole punch chamber to clear out the old punched paper... Only then can you resume punching holes... This is what happened in Florida on these very old machines...

These machines are over 50 years old... Whether this was an honest mistake not to properly service these machines or something else, the people who pushed those levers for Bush or Gore deserve to have their vote counted... It's their constitutional right...

The reason this election is different than any other election in the past 100 years is because it's so close... Gore won the national popular vote... If we all step back in a non partisan way and ask whether or not your vote or my vote shouldn't be counted because of a machine malfunction, we'll have the answer staring us in the face... If the situation were reversed Bush would now be contesting the election...

Mechanical Lever Machines

Mechanical lever machines were used by 20.7% of registered voters in the United States as of the 1996 Presidential election. Because these machines are no longer made, the trend is to replace them with computer based marksense
or direct recording electronic systems
.
