OT: Mechanical Lever Machines

James,

Lever machines are not used in Florida.
in last weeks issue, Newsweek produced a graphic that depicts the Florida as predominately Punch Cards and Optical Scan (the colors sucked on the graphic, but clearly depicts the "recount" counties as punch card, not lever).

here in the chicago area, we vote w/ punch cards as well (the exact same as Palm Beach County).
i recall making sure the card was properly inserted (there are guide posts on the top to ensure), punched thru properly (heard the "pop" each time), and after I pulled out the card, I ran my hand across the back to make sure all 'material' was 'dislodged' (did not know at the time they were called "chads" :-)

in my view, anyone who didn't follow the instructions on each punch card and displayed in each voting booth, filled an invalid ballot. Sad: yes. Stoopid: perhaps. Divine their interests: no.
