You simply cannot change laws during the process. I agree that it sux and it's unfair for Gore (who probably wanted to be pres more than any man, ever). The recount period was too short, probably a result of Florida having many many more votes to count now then when the process was established. Sometimes our system is not perfect, but that is life. If this keeps up, you risk permanently alienting people like myself who still see the democratic party as a viable option.

In essence the further this goes on, the more radical the push for Gore becomes, the more moderates leave, till it is just the hardcore liberals. Then what will you have? You will have become what the Republicans were, an extremist party.
