long, it doesn't have to be rice, any commodity will do. Consumption is a positive. Today, a share of GE, or IBM, is better currency than most any metal. The problem with gold is that it's no longer money, but just a commodity with excess inventory in central banks. You were on the right path for improvement with new uses for gold like catalytic converters, a use that requires physical gold.
