If the Repbulicans hadn't stood in the way of these counts this would all be done with. More importantly this is a very close election and Florida the closest contested state. The Republicans - rather than fighting for a recount should have supported a total state recount at the outset.

That position is absurd and here's why:

1.) We would be exactly where we are now. Protesting the outcome of the election except it would be a week earlier and Algor would be sitting on a miniscule lead and pretending that counting 4 counties was fair.

2.) Your argument portends that what Gore has done is fair, and that it is now the person who is winning the election is to argue, petition, and otherwise sue to protect his lead.

3.) He could have just as easily done exactly what he is doing now had he kept his mouth shut and protested the election in a proper way to the State of Florida since this was a statewide election. All he has done is waste time and money.

What SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED was Al Gore petitioning THE STATE OF FLORIDA to recount the whole state by hand. You can't blame the republicans for defending themselves against the democrat choice county theft tactics.
