The example sited above reflects a less than 2 yr. range. Your post indicated excessive volatility in a less than 3 yr period.

My message pointed out that even for someone holding Oracle for the longer term, entry point would make a huge difference. Within the July '97 - May '99 period, people could've bought ORCL at widely different prices, and their return today (at $24) would be anywhere from +140% to +700%. Therefore, entry point matters even if you hold for long periods, especially for a volatile stock like ORCL.
