The Republicans - rather than fighting for a recount should have supported a total state recount at the outset.

That position is absurd and here's why:

1.) We would be exactly where we are now. Protesting the outcome of the election except it would be a week earlier and Algor would be sitting on a
miniscule lead and pretending that counting 4 counties was fair.

Actually not... if all the counties were counted and if both teams had agreed on a process there would be no arguing. It would be done. That is, if there was agreement going into the count - rather than fighting the counting there could be no argument.

2.) Your argument portends that what Gore has done is fair, and that it is now the person who is winning the election is to argue, petition, and
otherwise sue to protect his lead.

Not sure what you mean here. Gore wants to win this election - just like Bush. Gore sought to have a recount in counties that had a huge number of votes tossed in an effort to win. Bush, instead of recounting other counties has done everything he can to keep the re-counting from happening. Fair is counting all the votes...Gore wants to count all the votes in counties that will produce votes for Gore. Bush doesn't want to count those votes...and doesn't want to count other uncounted votes. He should be fighting to count votes in other counties where their were undervotes.

3.) He could have just as easily done exactly what he is doing now had he kept his mouth shut and protested the election in a proper way to the
State of Florida since this was a statewide election. All he has done is waste time and money.

If Bush wasn't pulling all kinds of shenanigans Gore would have no case.

What SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED was Al Gore petitioning THE STATE OF FLORIDA to recount the whole state by hand. You can't blame the
republicans for defending themselves against the democrat choice county theft tactics.

No, what should have happened is that once Gore suggested a recount in selective counties is that Bush should have said fine - let's recount the entire state. Gore even offered this. Bush instead has fought tooth and nail to keep the recounts from occuring.
