BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 27, 2000--Pioneer, a leader in cable television set-tops and navigation software, today announced its latest set-top box, Voyager(TM) 3000.
Powered by Broadcom's sophisticated ``system-on-a-chip'' single chip MPEG processor, the new set-top offers dedicated processing power for enhanced graphics processing and session-based applications.
``Our new set-top offers the latest processing and functionality, all in a remarkably small footprint,'' said Mark E. Gurvey, vice president of sales and marketing for Pioneer. ``The Voyager 3000 is a powerful system designed to enhance a viewer's television experience.''
Big Features, Small Footprint
In addition to having one of the smallest set-top footprints in the industry, the Voyager 3000 offers increased memory (16 MB RAM with a 32 MB factory option); 8 MB Flash ROM; and a multifunction CPU with dedicated processing power for both graphics processing and session- based applications.
Cable operators can increase revenues by providing the latest technology to their customers. Voyager 3000 expands service capabilities by offering up to 1,999 channels, and it is designed with a built-in, real-time reverse path transmitter.
As a result, Pioneer's new set-top enables a range of two-way applications, including video-on-demand, data-on-demand, network gaming, Web browsing, direct-purchase merchandising and location information services, which enhance customers' entertainment experiences.
Voyager 3000 is designed with Harmony/DES/DVB decryption capability. It also supports USB, S-video, composite video, baseband stereo and optional IEEE-1394 (Firewire) for increased peripheral hardware connectivity.
When combined with Pioneer's latest edition of Passport(TM) 3.0, its innovative and revolutionary software component, Voyager 3000 offers the latest advances in digital cable set-top technology and provides viewers with the most exciting system available today for navigating the vast possibilities of programming and applications.
Pioneer's Voyager 3000 set-top will be commercially available in 2001 and is supported by Pioneer's standard five-year warranty.
