Agreed that VoIP is a broad category and I was trying to include both enterprise and SP as I consider strength in both to be key to long term success. Class 4 switch functionality (including switch, gateway and signaling) solutions have been offered by CSCO for some time now. I am not aware of any class 5 switch type solutions that are currently deployed and I would suggest that the last mile solutions are going to leapfrog a direct comparison to a class 5 switch and that any solution that is focused only on delivering voice will fail in a big way.

We are in agreement that the market is potentially worth hundreds of billions of dollars, but I think that it is very important to look at the last mile solutions to the home and to businesses as far more encompassing than just delivering telephony or class 5 type services.

I disagree that the enterprise VoIP market has not gone anywhere in the past couple of years. Certainly VoIP transport of legacy voice has grown significantly in the past couple of years. A complete IP telephony solution wasn't available until relatively recently. I would say that it is still in its early adopter phase as the feature list is still not that of a Meridian or Definity. As the features get added, I would expect greated acceptance.
