mr mark, nice work turning 'install' off. :) Something you
wrote made me pay attention to pm [physical memory] and
swap file size. I had desktop and laptop side by side and
ran Norton Optimization Wizard on both.

Desktop WAS optimized already. Laptop needed optimization.
Here's what Norton OW did:
RAM PM free Swap file size SF usage
Desktop 96MB 44.5MB 98,304 53%
Laptop 192MB 67.8MB 196,052 30%

Both machines had minimal programs open and were not on the
internet. For the laptop Norton OW automatically rebooted
and performed defragmentation.
