Hanaro Forms Tie-up with Motorola for IMT-200 Service

A Hanaro Telecom-led consortium, the only synchronous-mode bidder for an IMT-2000
license, said Tuesday it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with
Motorola, Inc. to cooperate in synchronous-platform technology development.

The consortium, temporarily dubbed "Korea IMT-2000," decided to develop a
standardized synchronous-mode IMT-2000 system and Internet application services
with the U.S. firm.

Both sides also agreed to work together to establish a system for next-generation
mobile telecommunication services and the production of IMT-2000 cell phones.

Four consortiums led by the LG Group, the SK Group, Korea Telecom and Hanaro
Telecom are competing for three IMT-2000 licenses.
