Toshiba's DVD and Personal Video Recorder Combo Product Designed Around C-Cube's MPEG-2 Codec

In an Innovative Product With the Industry's Highest Video Quality

C-Cube Microsystems Inc. (Nasdaq:CUBE) today announced that consumer electronics giant Toshiba Corporation has chosen C-Cube's DVxplore(R) MPEG-2 video codec as a key component in their RD-2000, a newly announced combination hard-disk drive (HDD) and DVD-RAM recorder product. Toshiba's RD-2000 enables consumers to time-shift television, record DVDs, and play back DVD videos in a single product.

DVxplore is C-Cube's first consumer MPEG-2 codec product, providing the highest quality video together with a superior feature set optimized for HDD and DVD-RAM recording. DVxplore is based on C-Cube's patented fourth generation MPEG-2 codec technology, and, together with DVxcel(R) are the only true MPEG-2 video codecs shipping in the market today.

Toshiba's RD-2000 HDD and DVD video recorder includes both a 30GB HDD and a DVD-RAM drive providing a combined record capacity of up to 33 hours. The RD-2000 includes a number of innovative features such as one-touch record start, playback list, record navigation, thumbnails and title list support, manual selection of record picture quality level from 2.0-9.8Mbps, and easy viewing of TV program guide information. Users can create DVD libraries with chapters, perform easy scene cutting, fast searching, custom disk recording, and play list generation. Other features include an advanced user interface, one-touch commercial skip function, preview of disk contents, integrated tuner, and DVD-Video, DVD-RAM, VCD and CD-DA playback.
