On the other I'm quite skeptical of the Gore/Liberman challenges. Not to mention their sincerity. From today's paper:

washingtonpost.com

"Ignoring votes means ignoring democracy itself," [Gore] said. "If we ignore the votes of thousands in Florida in this election, how can you or any American have confidence that your vote will not be ignored in a future election?

And from another article on a suit by a Democrat in Seminole County:

washingtonpost.com

The lawsuit charged that Goard's "misconduct and collusion" with Republican workers tainted the election, and it requested that the courts throw out all 15,000 absentee ballots, since it is impossible to identify the ones that resulted from "altered" request forms.

Anyone think this is a setup for Gore to act in a statesmanlike manner and request that the lawsuit be dropped?

And in the matter of the December 12 deadline, it appears that the deadline may not be as definite as some think:

washingtonpost.com

Some legal experts say that Jan. 5 is the only deadline that really counts. They note that in 1961, at the final moment, the Hawaii governor reversed the certification of electors for then-Vice President Richard M. Nixon and gave his state's electoral votes to then-Sen. John F. Kennedy. A recount had not been completed until Dec. 28.
