Another DNA study, (I'm still looking for the URL) traced the 'Y' chromosomes in Europe. They all come down to 10 male forefathers dating 5000 years ago (early bronze age). That's only a few hundred generations back. Of course that does not mean there were only 10 men, but it does indicate that only 10 had survivers for those generations.
