Agreed.... Leon Panetta last night was interesting. Pretty much said what I have propositioned here which is that if Gore and Bush would have acted like heads of state they would have got together and agreed upon how to best make sure that a count was done accurately.

The fact is the machines threw out thousands of votes.
Bush won this tally by less than a thousand votes.
Given the large number of votes not counted it makes sense to review these "tossed votes".
Gore demanded it, Bush didn't want it.

True heads of state would have agreed it needed to be done in order to validate the next president. Bush fought this every step of the way and went as far as to claim to be the winner. At issue (regardless of what Gore says or thinks or wants to do) is that Bush won the orignal tally by less than a thousand votes and more than 20,000 votes were not counted. It only makes sense to check these undercounts to verify that Bush in fact did win. THAT is the issue... and the fact that Bush has fought to have these counts take place and is still fighting.. They slowed the process and now complain that it didn't get done. They usurped the process and now suggest that Miami-Dade stopped counting and therefore they shouldn't count - when it was Republican riots that halted the counting. Most amazing of all is that Nassau changed the certification to revert back to the orignal machine count when in fact the second machine count added votes for Gore and that Browards votes were ignored altogether. Again, regardless of what Gore wants or says - these are travesty's of justice.
