Well said, Enam. And that is EXACTLY what a stereotype is; a generalization of the perceived characteristics of a group, and of course it also means, as you say, that it "does not hold true across the board."
My previous statements, apparently offensive to some, were purely observational in nature. I am agnostic and have no feelings in religious matters, so obviously I am not anti-Semetic.
The point isn't whether or not the stereotype, in general, is true or not. The point is that it exists in literature, film, theater, and various other media. It was this reality that I observed. I don't know or even care if it is true or not.
