As far as I'm aware, nobody on this thread has mentioned this, so let me stick my neck out. If you're saving $50/month, why not put it into a no-load growth mutual fund? The reason is that you get built-in diversification. You can then, once every 9 months or so buy an individual stock.

Anybody else on this thread think that this idea has merit?
