Goutama, at this point you know more about tax rates than I do. Someone else on thread care to comment?:

What is the max tax rate on the operational income? Also, what is the max tax rate for the corporations on their investment gains? I've been trying to analyze the tax rates on different types of income reported by intel over the last four quarters.

35% tax rate on the investment gains, and about 39.5% tax rate on the pure operational income seem to work with in 1% of error in reconciling the deferred taxes reported by Intel in their four previous quarters' earnings reports. TIA

I do have one comment. If taxes are really on the order of 39.5% of operational income but corporations are reporting less than that in their quarterly statments, wouldn't deferred taxes be a liability for most corporations, rather than an asset?

Hmmmm - I just checked Intel's and AMD's balance sheet and, indeed, they both have more deferred tax liability than deferred tax assets. I guess they have been reporting lower taxes than reality. Or, perhaps the deferred liability grows during the fiscal year until the taxes are actually paid.
