Selected by Large Wireless Telecom to Provide Power Supplies for Telecommunications Infrastructure
Relationship Marks First Design-In Win for Maker Of Smallest, Lightest, Most Efficient Power Supplies
ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Nov. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- OnLine Power Supply, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: OPWR) today announced that a large wireless telecommunications company has selected OnLine Power's OPS-500-385 PFC Module for use in its new, innovative telecommunications system. The name of the company and value of the potential orders was not disclosed by mutual agreement pending finalization of formal supplier agreements.
Kris Budinger, CEO of OnLine Power, said the telecom company, which had previously ordered 800 units for testing and evaluation purposes, has indicated it expects to place an initial, volume purchase order for PFC modules soon. Finalization of a formal agreement would make this company the first volume customer for OnLine Power's new line of high-efficiency power supplies.
"We are pleased with the growth in this customer relationship and view this as validation not only of OnLine Power's unique technology but of our strategy to initially market our products to original equipment manufacturers in the fast-growing wireless marketplace," said Budinger. "We were selected because our superior technology outperformed all of the competition tested. Our small size, high efficiency across an extended temperature range, and EMI/transient/surge protection were the key factors in this design-win. Our engineering and sales teams did a tremendous job working with this customer."
Budinger said the selection of Online Power by a large OEM represents a major design win for OnLine Power's approach to power supply technology. "One of our goals," said Budinger, "is to have our products designed into new and innovative systems that will be deployed into the marketplace. The unique features and benefits of our products provide system designers greater flexibility and the ability to put more power into smaller spaces."
Power supplies are devices that convert AC power to DC power suitable for use in sensitive electronic devices. OnLine Power's patent-pending OPS-500-385 PFC Module represents a significant advancement in power supply technology. The units are smaller and lighter than conventional power supplies and are able to operate at 97% efficiency in temperatures ranging from -40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius, which is a particularly valuable benefit for remotely-located systems. In addition, the unit's small, light-weight profile offers design engineers increased flexibility that can help electronics manufacturers lower their overall system costs.
