Compaq Expands Telco Central Office
Family With New Low Cost, High Performance DS10

HOUSTON, Nov. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Strengthening its commitment to the communications industry,
Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ - news) today announced a new Central Office server that
delivers very high performance -- two-times faster than competitive systems -- at lower price points.
Targeted at carriers, service providers, and telecom equipment manufacturers (TEMs), the entry-level
DS10CO server leverages full 64-bit Alpha(TM) processing power and Tru64(TM) UNIX®.
The latest addition to Compaq's family of Central Office systems, the DS10CO is a standard
Alpha-based server that is enhanced and certified to meet demanding NEBS level 3 criteria for reliability
and availability in COs. These NEBS features, plus Compaq clustering technology, ensure the very high
availability needed in Central Offices.
Its modular, standards-based architecture provides these customers with the flexibility and scalability
they need to get new services to market quickly -- and grow them cost-effectively as subscriber volume
increases.
Compaq delivers the DS10CO fully pre-configured, and offers complete systems integration and
installation services to ensure rapid, dependable, and low-cost deployment into production
environments.
As a network-based platform -- Intelligent Peripheral (IP), Service Node (SN), and Application Server --
the DS10CO will host applications such as intelligent call routing, call centers, call accounting, caller
ID, Internet access, and multimedia messaging, among others.
