I disagree. In America, the change is subtle. The despots you refer to took power fairly quickly. The end result is the same. I believe the German people knew in their hearts how evil the nazi power was but ignored it or participated willingly. Same with the Russian people. Iraqis ditto. Look at us today in the United States. 25 million babies killed in their mothers wombs. This would not have been believed possible if told to our populace 100 years ago.
