Im a little surprised that you are having problems acquiring a SYJet drive. I have had no problems since early April acquiring internal SyJet SCSI drives from CDW. I did had problems in early April acquiring cartridges, but received all backorders the first of May. I am extremely pleased with the performance of the SYJet. I can't say the same for the JAZ drive. We have had nothing but trouble with the JAZ drive and cartridges. I am slowly replacing all JAZ drives on our engineering LAN with SYJets.

The latest CDW flyer had the SYJet IDE version adverised. I called today for availability. Sales said that it should be in stock any day now. I believe that the IDE version of the SYJet ($399) makes the price very competitive with the JAZ drive ($299), since most people have IDE interfaces in their computers not SCSI. In IDE systems you must purchase a SCSI interface which adds another ~$100. The SCSI also takes up an additional card slot and is more difficult to configure for the average user. Not to mention the added advantage of ease of booting with the IDE device. Cost per MB in IDE systems still favors the SYJet.

I also noticed that the cost of the EZFlyer 230 IDE version is $207. I believe this price makes the EZFlyer very competitive with the ZIP drive @ $149 + $99 for the SCSI controller. The EZFlyer media is twice the cost of the ZIP media, but you get over twice the storage space on the EZFlyer. Plus the EZFlyer is more than twice as fast as the ZIP drive. Again if you are adding a removable drive to an IDE system cost per MB favors the EZFlyer over the ZIP drive.

By the way, the latest issue of Windows magazine selected the EZFlyer and SYJET in the top 100 computer hardware products, neither the JAZ or ZIP were listed.

Regards, Bill
