The chad problem was exported to the USSR some years ago. Florida must have missed the boat(s); but they came later!

The RARE ASR model was a high maintenance product, due mostly to paper tape punches (called chad) backing up into the punch assembly. Introduced at the time of magnetic tape terminals and other less expensive and faster printers, most 37 Teletypes were purchased back from customers and re-sold to the Soviet Union along with some early vacuum tube computers.
