Hi Ray:

I think we disagree on the importance of this bear market.
To me this is just a garden variety bear market
engineered by the Fed's rate increases. Although I won't
dispute some of the manic elements in dot.com
land, there is a huge difference between the tulip
mania and what we witnessed: the economic changes
generated by technological advances are real. All
analyses that go back to 87 and discuss the
advance of the Nasdaq from 500 to 5,000 are missing
that it's not the same Nasdaq. I would venture that
almost 70% of the Nasdaq market weight represents
companies that did not exist in 87.

When streaming video becomes widespread, I also bet
that these 1.5GHz INTC processors will feel slow.
If Intel overcomes early Pentium IV production issues,
I expect that 18 to 24 months from now AMD will be
on the ropes (the usual cycle of the INTC-AMD
competition).

Best regards,

Bernard Levy
