Tell me you understand this What you don't understand is that previous close Presidential elections have been finalized by deals between the candidates. The cases where a candidate refused to deal, such as John Q. Adams caused not only the candidate to lose later, but the whole party structure of the candidate fell apart. Deals are the art of politics, the courts and legislatures find a way to accomodate them. Did you recently fall from a turnip truck? TP
