This administration has dumped every possible ounce in the last 4 years. Hardly what I'd call "subsidized", though one could argue that government holdings before that provided a subsidy, the selling provided no such subsidy.

Only when it was taken from the market - in many cases during war time as a true strategic metal - did it provide a "subsidy". The extra demand increases price, the extra supply depresses price.
