Actually the reason the RDRAM costs is still high appears to be the lack of competition. Samsung can charge what it wants because INF, MU and Hyundai are not competing. Elpida will join the competition seriously next year. Meanwhile, Toshiba is supplying Sony on the PSII. The net result is little competition for Samsung.

All one has to do is to take a look at Samsung's statements about RDRAM to realize it is making a killing of RDRAM.
I talked with an insider at COMDEX and he confirmed that Samsung's is setting the price higher than it would if it had serious competition.
